I am raising £500 to return to Ahmedabad, India in December 2018. All proceeds raised go to Square Mile India. I have seen first hand the amazing work Square Mile does, I was fortunate enough to go to Ahmedabad in January this year and even more fortunate to be invited back!
I have recently finished my nursing degree and will soon be starting as a qualified paediatric nurse in Leicester. Whilst volunteering in Ahmedabad in January, I was able to incorporate my nursing degree by teaching children, adults and volunteers CPR and first aid skills.
Whilst out in Ahmedabad myself and other DMU Alumni will be taking part in various volunteering projects including: the Loving Community project (which builds houses to support families who have been hit worst by the monsoon season), the Gandhi Ashram (as well as being the home of Gandhi for 12 years, it now houses around 120 orphaned children) and participating in volunteering workshops. During this trip I will be incorporating my nursing skills into volunteering workshops. I will be taking out bulk basic first aid supplies with me, to donate to the communities in Ahmedabad, I learnt first hand in January that most have not received any education, so providing healthcare advice, tips and items is invaluable.
The money that is donated to Square Mile India ensures that children at the Gandhi Ashram can have access to basic healthcare, education, food, clothes, books and equipment for games.
If you cannot donate, please share!!
