Summery of my project
Following my trip to India last week, I am raising £100.00 to help fund the redevelopment of two houses in Ahmedabad, raising them above water level ready for the up and coming monsoon season. Each year hundreds of homes are flooded and completely destroyed devastating this wonderful and vibrant community. This project will work with a group called The Loving Community, made up of former lepers and their families. There is still so much social stigma associated with Leprosy that these people often find it terribly hard to find a job, making them some of Ahmedabad’s most vulnerable individuals within the slums.
I am a Student Children’s Nurse studying at De Montfort University. Through the DMU Square Mile India Project, I was given the amazing opportunity to visit the city of Ahmedabad in India where we worked with the teachers and wardens of the local community centres and hostels, supporting the most vulnerable individuals within the Ahmedabad slums. This was hands down the most remarkable, inspiring and eye-opening experience of my life so far. I have fallen completely in love with Ahmedabad and its vibrant community and wish to do so much more to help these selfless, loving and wonderful people. I am still in oar of what I have experienced on this trip and struggle to put into words my gratitude towards this amazing and incredible community.
I can guarantee that all of you donations, big or small, will be met with such gratitude from the people of Ahmedabad and dmu global. Thank you!!
